Packing a picnic for the zoo? Try some of these clever ideas from Perpetual Preschooler.
Zebra Sandwiches
Using a sliced white loaf of bread, butter and hazelnut spread on four slices. Layer the slices spread side up, adding a plain piece of bread on the top. Use cookie cutters or simply cut into four. The children love to count the number of 'stripes' they can see before eating!
Colorful Zoo Creatures
Using Q-tips or new water color brushes, paint animal crackers with edible paint made from corn syrup and food coloring. The children never have anything to show for all their hard work, but their tummies are happy!
Lion Sandwiches
Spread mustard and mayonnaise on the flat side of a hamburger bun. Place a piece of bologna and a piece of American Cheese on the bun. Sprinkle grated Cheddar and Swiss cheese around the circumference of the bun to represent the lion's mane. Toast in a toaster oven until cheese is melted. Garnish with green pepper for the mouth, olives for eyes, and a small piece of carrot for the nose.
Cracker Cage
Spread peanut butter on a graham cracker. Add an animal cracker zoo creature. Cage in your animal with black licorice ropes.
